AVB Olive Leaf Line Drawing

The Olive Leaf | Arrowtown, New Zealand

Nestled within the historic township of Arrowtown, New Zealand, The Olive Leaf is a distinctive architectural development that seamlessly connects past and present. Designed as an extension to a cherished church that has served the community for almost 150 years, the project creates a contemporary destination for gathering, hospitality, and reflection while respecting the site's rich heritage.

The development comprises a versatile multi-purpose event space and boutique accommodation, unified beneath a striking sculptural roof inspired by the form of an olive leaf. This elegant architectural gesture establishes a strong visual identity while symbolising peace, community, and renewal.

A key aspect of the design is its commitment to material authenticity and regional character. Natural, locally sourced materials are carefully selected to reflect the textures, colours, and landscapes of Central Otago, creating a building that feels deeply connected to its surroundings. The interplay of organic forms, craftsmanship, and sustainable design principles results in a rich architectural experience that responds sensitively to both the historic church and the wider Arrowtown environment.

The Olive Leaf demonstrates Architecture van Brandenburg's approach to creating meaningful places where architecture, culture, and landscape converge. By blending innovative design with local heritage, the project provides a vibrant new community hub while celebrating the unique history and character of Arrowtown.
